The challenges highlighted for traditional sales roles create opportunities within marketing. As consumers look towards conducting their own research and becoming more open to making purchases online for convenience, there is an increase in demand for marketers with omni-channel experience. Within retail, marketers with online shop and mobile app retail shopping experience are in high demand, while digital and social media marketing and ecommerce experience is valued within the travel sector.
FMCG companies are also focused on how they source and distribute their products. Adapting to the consumer trend of seeking convenience, the logistics of how consumers receive the goods via quicker and easier methods are being explored. Candidates with merchandising and buying expertise as well as marketing imported goods are in high demand.
Though Asia has been affected by the global economic slowdown, Hong Kong remains the financial hub for multinational banks, Chinese banks and state owned enterprise asset management firms. These are less affected by the downturn and are looking for candidates with Mandarin language skills for roles across PR, corporate affairs and investor relations.
IT&T companies are also driving marketing hires to facilitate the growth in trade at events and Connect e-Digests.
In line with the general market, salaries are likely to remain static with slight 3-4% salary increments following internal salary review and 10-15% for external moves.
