We’re all familiar with the adage that ‘Change is the only constant’. For me, the line that I believe should follow right after is ‘Embrace Change’. Because in doing so, it will be what makes the difference between us moving forward and improving as an individual and organization or risk remaining stagnant. Especially taking into consideration, our current socioeconomic landscape, it more pertinent now than ever before to ensure that we remain relevant and is in a constant state of learning and improvement.
Embracing change often requires us to step outside of our comfort zone into a space that is unexpected and at times, downright scary. Because it often means wondering if we’re on the right path, questioning its purpose and making our heart beat just a little bit faster. But ultimately, it’s these experiences that will take us to the next level and be a better version of ourselves.
So.. my advice, the next time an opportunity for some sort of change comes along, put aside that first inclination to say “No”, and go with a “Yes!”. Because maybe… just maybe… that “Yes!” might be the one that takes you from where you are to where you want to be.
Having grown up in Vancouver, Canada, I was a part of the Canadian education system right up until I graduated from Simon Fraser University with degree in Economics.
From there I kick-started my career by joining HSBC Bank Canada doing Personal Financial Services.
It was there that I first set my sights on Asia as I saw its potential for growth. I made the decision to move to Taiwan in 2011 and chose a different career path by going into recruitment and focusing on the Financial Services sectors. In 2014, I took another leap of faith and relocated to Singapore for the role of in-house HRBP within the executive search firm and focused on internal hiring for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. The scope also included working closely with the respective business leaders to map out a consultant’s career progression and also collaborate on projects to improve and drive business performance.
My decision to say Yes to the recruitment industry more than 8 years ago has been one that I am always grateful for. Not only has it been a platform for me to grow and develop myself, it has also allowed me the opportunity to cross paths with countless others and be in a position to do the same for them too.
