I specialize in recruiting contract office support within the commerce & industry sector.
Many candidates I have met presume that a permanent job is much better than contract roles in terms of stability and career path. However, I have observed a trend where many local and MNC companies are freezing or reducing their permanent headcount to due to market instability, lower internal HR workload and to cut labour costs, thus we see an increase in the demand for contract staff and is becoming more prevalent than ever in Hong Kong.
Currently, contract roles in the local market are offering higher basic salaries than permanent positions and an attractive contract-completion bonus to attract the best talents. Candidates who were proven to perform well in the business are offered contract renewals or conversion to a permanent position, where candidates are likely to be end up with higher salary increments than if they started with a permanent position initially. Contractors are also able to experience a steeper learning curve as they are required to learn quick in their roles to perform within their contract period and have the chance to work in different companies or industries should they choose to.
My advice is that job seekers should not only focus on permanent positions but to also consider contract roles to make an advancement into their career.
After obtaining a degree in Teesside University, I started my recruitment career with Adecco in the Contracting division. During my time there, I was a Team Lead leading 3 consultants focusing on general staffing.
I have achieved Top Performers awards 3 years in a row and was awarded #1 biller in Adecco HK in 2018. After leaving Adecco, I have joined Morgan McKinley as a Senior Consultant and now focusing on general office support roles in commerce.
